    Easy Pretzel Christmas Crack Recipe

This Easy Pretzel Christmas Crack Recipe is the perfect combination of sweet and salty! It has become a staple for us during every holiday season. The melted chocolate combined with the salty pretzels and caramel mixture is truly to die for. This recipe only requires 20 minutes of hands on time and can prepped in advance for your next special occasion.

Pretzels with chocolate and christmas sprinkles on top of a sheet pan.

Ever since I moved out of my parents home, got married and started my own family I have realized that the magic around the holidays comes from tradition and usually Momma making it special. I have so many fond memories of my Mom baking, decorating and making all of the special seasonal recipes. If you love this recipe, you will love some of my other holiday favorites like my Gingerbread Cocktail, my absolute favorite Pear Cocktail Recipe, Dairy Free Crab Dip, Gluten Free Red Velvet Cake, and my husband’s favorite Gluten-Free Stuffed Mushrooms.

    [feast_advanced_jump_to]

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • This Christmas crack recipe can be made dairy free, gluten free, soy free and refined sugar free.
    • My pretzel crack recipe can be made and advance and placed in the freezer for up to 2 months.
    • Although my favorite time of the year to make this easy recipe is Christmas, you can also make it any other time of the year and using different colored sprinkles.
    • Giving homemade gifts is one my favorite ways to get in the holiday spirit. Food makes for great holiday gifts! Place this fun holiday treat in a cute little box and you have yourself the best homemade gift.
    • I have included two recipes within this recipe, a traditional recipe and a better for you refined sugar free recipe that is also dairy free and gluten free.

    Main Ingredients

Pretzel Christmas Crack ingredients laid out on the counter in glass bowls.
    • Unsalted butter-This is used to make the caramel sauce.
    • Semi-sweet chocolate chips-This makes for the chocolate layer over the caramel sauce.
    • Brown sugar/ Coconut sugar-For the homemade caramel sauce.
    • Mini Pretzels-I like the mini ones.
    • Sprinkles or sea salt-To top things off with!
    • Cooking spray oil-To help prevent the chocolate bark from sticking.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    Substitutions And Variations

    • Butter-If you are dairy free like me, you can also use vegan butter or ghee. I have a Homemade Ghee recipe on my blog if you are into ghee like I am. Although I cannot have butter, I can have ghee because the milk proteins are removed from it. Both will give you that buttery caramel flavor and texture as regular butter would!
    • Chocolate chips-you can also use milk chocolate chips or vegan chocolate chips. You can also use white chocolate chips if that is your thing too!
    • Brown sugar-I use coconut sugar as a better for you refined sugar free alternative.
    • Pretzels-Since I am gluten free, I use gluten free and grain free pretzels. You can also use saltine crackers, ritz crackers or other kinds of gluten free crackers to make this recipe.
    • Other toppings-From candy canes to mini m&m make for fun toppings! You can also sprinkle chocolate chips on top.

This recipe has not been tested with any other substitutions or variations. If you try something else out please let me know how it turns out in the comments below!

    Step By Step Instructions

Pretzels laid out on a sheet pan.
Step #1: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Start by laying out your pretzels flat in a single layer on a parchment paper lined baking sheet that was sprayed with cooking oil.
Coconut sugar, coconut oil and maple syrup in a sauce pot.
Step #2: Place your maple syrup and coconut sugar into a pot and slowly bring to a boil. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent burning. Caramel sauce will start to thicken and combine. You will want to pour the caramel sauce over the pretzels and place in the oven for 5 minutes.
Chocolate and coconut oil in a sauce pan.
Step #3: In another saucepan, combine your coconut oil and dairy free chocolate. Put on low heat and stir constantly while the coconut oil and chocolate melt and combine.
Chocolate and milk melted in a a sauce pan.
Step #4: Once coconut oil and chocolate fully melt, you will have a smooth chocolate sauce.
Chocolate and caramel sauce poured over the pretzels.
Step #5: Next, you will then slowly pour the melted chocolate over the pretzels as well. You will want to carefully spread this over the pretzels.
Chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles on top.
Step #6: Add optional sprinkles on top and place in the freezer for 2-3 hours to harden.

    Equipment

    • Saucepan
    • Spatula
    • Sheet pan

    Expert Tips

    • Tip # 1: Depending on the size of chocolate chips vs. chocolate chunks you use, the additional time in the oven to melt the chocolate may vary.
    • Tip # 2: When pouring the fat and sugar mixture over the crackers make sure to pour the mixture evenly over the crackers.
    • Tip # 3: For easy clean up you can place parchment or wax paper on the bottom of the casserole dish so that it lifts out with no mess left behind.

    Ingredients

    • 4.5 ounce bag mini pretzels I like using gluten free cauliflower pretzels.
    • 1/2 cup coconut oil
    • 3/4 cup maple syrup
    • 1/4 cup coconut sugar You can also use brown sugar if that is your thing.
    • 4 cups chocolate chips I prefer dairy free chocolate chips.

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Now, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray oil to prevent the Christmas bark from sticking. Add the pretzels in a single layer to the sheet.
    • Now, add the maple syrup and sugar in a saucepan on medium heat. Stir until well combined and let it come to a boil for 3-5 minutes. Once it starts to thicken, remove from the heat.
    • Now pour the caramel mixture over the pretzels. It is ok if it does not cover all of the pretzels because it will spread in the oven. Place in the oven for 5 minutes.
    • While pretzels are in the oven, place the chocolate and coconut oil in a saucepan on medium low heat. Stir constantly while melting to prevent the chocolate from burning. After the 5 minutes is up, remove the pretzels from the oven and pour the chocolate sauce over the pretzels.
    • Now, use a spatula to spread out the melted chocolate. Sprinkle desired toppings and place in the freezer to harden for 2-3 hours. Use a knife to break pieces off.

tigernut butter in a container with tigernuts scattered

    October 27, 2021 Allergy Friendly

    Tigernut Butter (Nut Free, AIP)

This nut free tigernut butter is a great peanut butter alternative for those with nut allergies or that are doing the autoimmune protocol (AIP). This tigernut butter is creamy, sweet and a bit salty. You can have this nut free snack on the table within 5 minutes!

tigernut butter in a container with tigernuts scattered

    AIP tigernut butter ingredients:

    • Tigernut flour-I love this brand! tigernut flour is expensive in comparison to other flours, however it is a lot cheaper than buying store bought tigernut butter.
    • Avocado oil-My go to oil of choice for making this. You can use olive oil, however it may change the flavor profile a bit.
    • Maple syrup-To help bind everything together and add some sweetness. You can substitute for coconut sugar.
    • Sea salt-To complement the sweetness.

ingredients for tigernut butter laid out

    How to make:

    • Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth!
    • You may need to scrape down the sides to get all of the flour mixed in.

step by step how to make tigernut butter

What should I serve this with?

    • You can use this as a peanut butter nut free alternative in almost anything. I like to eat it with celery or apples too! This makes for a great AIP appetizer or snack.

overhead shot of tigernut butter in a cup

    What is tigernut flour?

    • Tigernuts flour is made from a root vegetable. It is higher in carbs and lower in protein in comparison to regular nut butters. Tigernut balls can also be made into milk, desserts, and granolas. Despite having nut in the name, tigernuts are nut free which makes them great for those with nut allergies or on the autoimmune protocol.

    Ingredients

Gluten free apple muffin ingredients in small glass bowls.
    • Chopped apples-You can leave the skin on. Make sure the apples are diced up and that you are using fresh apples. Although any kind of chunks of apple will work granny smith apples are my favorite, they are the best of both worlds when it comes to apples. You get sweet apples and tart apples all in one!. I also really like pink lady apples, gala apples, and honeycrisp apples.
    • Eggs-To bind everything together.
    • Almond butter-This is in place of a gluten-free flour blend, you can substitute this for peanut butter if you would like. Note that the flavor profile may change!
    • Maple syrup-To sweeten the muffins! You can substitute for honey if you would like.
    • Apple cider vinegar and baking soda-This combination makes the muffins rise!
    • Avocado oil spray-To prevent from sticking.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    Substitutions and Variations

    • If you do not like maple syrup, you can substitute for honey instead.
    • You can use the nut butter of your choice in this recipe.

This recipe has not been tested with other substitutions or variations. If you replace or add any ingredients, please let us know how it turned out in the comments below!

    Step by Step Ingredients

Gluten free apple muffin ingredients in a glass mixing bowl unmixed.

Photo 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place all of the wet ingredients and dry ingredients in a large bowl and whisk together.

Gluten free apple muffin batter combined in a glass mixing bowl with a whisk.

Photo 2: Spray the muffin pan with cooking oil and divide up the batter for 8 muffins. Bake for 25 minutes.

    Expert Tips

    • Tip # 1: For best results, once you pull the muffins out of the oven, allow the silicone muffin pan to cool on a cooling rack. This will prevent them from sticking.
    • Tip # 2: It can be helpful to mix all of the ingredients before adding in the apples. This will ensure all other ingredients are evenly distributed before folding in the apples.
    • Tip # 3: When you are chopping up the apples, you will want to make sure that the cubes are bite size.
    • Tip #4: Sometimes I like using silicone muffin cups over paper liners. They are reusable!

    Recipe FAQs

What kind of apples do you use?

You can use any kind of apples!

What kind of muffin pan do you prefer?

I prefer to use a silicone muffin pan so that clean up and storage are easier.

    Can I freeze these muffins?

Yes! I recommend that if you are going to freeze them that you use only the silicone muffin pans. If you freeze muffins with a paper liner it will be difficult to remove the liners when they thaw. You will also want to make sure to allow to cool completely and freeze in a single layer.

What should I serve with these muffins?

I like to have mine as a desert or serve them with a side of fresh fruit.

Gluten free apple muffins stacked on a plate and garnished with whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and sliced apples.

    Storage Instructions

    • You can store leftover muffins in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 1 month in an air-tight container. Sometimes I like making a double batch of these easy gluten free apple muffins so that I can freeze some!

    Eight Favorite Things: Kitchen Essentials

    kitchen essentials photo collage

Eight Favorite Things: Kitchen Essentials Edition:

I am frequently asked for some of my must have kitchen equipments that I use in my cooking.  This is something that I could talk about for hours because it combines two of my favorite things: cooking and shopping!  To start, I have limited it down to eight of my kitchen essential must haves:

    kitchen essentials 1

Ninja Mega Kitchen Blender System with Food Processor

    • I continue to find more uses for this blender system every week!  From creating smoothies and sauces all the way to cashew parmesan I could use this daily.  Even after having it for over a year now it is still in great condition and working just as good as it was the day I bought it!

    kitchen essentials 2

Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9 Speed Hand Mixer with Storage Case- Stainless Steel

    • A good hand mixer is a must for any kitchen!  The added storage case with this mixer is a plus for me because it allows me to keep all of the parts together and organized so that when I go to use it, everything is together and ready without having to search through multiple drawers for it.

    kitchen essentials 3

Cuisinart Toa-60 Air Fryer Toaster Oven

    • With a busy schedule I don’t always have time to wait for my oven to heat up to warm up my lunch.  This air fryer toaster oven is a life saver!  I can plug it, turn it on, and by the time I have my meal all set to put in it’s ready to go.  When I have limited time between meetings this is a must have during meal time.

    kitchen essentials 4

Trudeau 12-Cup Confetti Silicone Muffin Pan

    • Silicone muffin pans are a game changer!  There’s no more fighting to get your muffin out of the pan in one piece.  It is easy as letting your food cool and pushing it out of the pan.  I use them for flourless muffins, meatloaf muffins, egg muffins, and more!  They are versatile and great to have one hand.

    kitchen essentials 5

Wusthof Gourmet 16 Piece Knife Set, Acacia

    • A good knife set is essential for any chef or home cook.  This knife set is great quality and stay sharp making it more than worth the investment.  The added kitchen sheers and knife sharpener make it an even greater deal!

    kitchen essentials 6

    Always Pan

    • My Always Pan is one of my top favorite items I have in my kitchen.  I switched to all nontoxic pans in my home and I use this pan daily.  It cooks evenly and is easy to clean.  An added bonus is that is also a great decor piece for your kitchen as well!

    kitchen essentials 7

    KitchenAid Stand Mixer

    • With the holiday season coming, it means lots of baking for gatherings.  Having a stand mixer makes bulk baking for gatherings no longer an arm work out just to get your dough ready.

    kitchen essentials 9

    Ninja Foodi Electric Pressure Cooker

    • I live for a great home cooked meal but with a busy schedule time isn’t always on my side.  Having an instant pot takes away the excuse of not having time or your meat still being frozen from being able to make yourself a home cooked dinner.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

    • It is so simple! It involves only about 5 minutes of hands on time.
    • Kids will love this dish.
    • This recipe is naturally gluten free, dairy free, nut free, soy free, and paleo.
    • This dish only requires 4 ingredients!
    • I love to pair this dish with my go to broccoli and sweet potato recipes.
    • This is a great recipe to make to meal prep for your week ahead.

    Ingredients

Pork butt ingredients in small glass bowls.
    • Pork butt–I prefer bone out but you can for sure cook with the bone it. If you are cooking with the bone in I would cook the pork a little longer-10 more minutes. The cooking time changes when the bone is in because it impacts the meat distribution. I get my pork butt from Butcher Box. They send me a monthly shipment of all of my favorite meats and seafood. If you use my link HERE you can get free bacon for life!
    • Honey mustard-I like the Whole Foods 365 brand, but any brand will work! Be sure to check the ingredients on the label.
    • Paprika-To give the pork a nice kick. This is optional.
    • Bone broth-Liquid is essential when cooking with the instant pot.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    Substitutions and Variations

    • This recipe is very versatile and can pair well with any side dish of your choice.
    • Paprika is optional but will add a nice kick to the pork.
    • The type of bone broth is your choice, I prefer to use chicken with this dish.

This recipe has not been tested with other substitutions or variations. If you replace or add any ingredients, please let us know how it turns out in the comments below.

    Step by Step Instructions

Raw pork butt with honey mustard coating in an instant pot.
First, mix together the honey mustard and paprika. Add the bone broth to the bottom of the instant pot. Pour half of the mustard mixture onto the pork and place in the instant pot on high pressure cook for 55 minutes.
Shredded pork pot in a glass bowl.
Allow the instant pot to manually de-pressurize. When it is done, shred the pork with two forks.
Pork butt with honey mustard on top in a glass bowl.
Add in the rest of the honey mustard mixture and mix completely. Serve with optional cauliflower rice, sweet potatoes, or broccoli.

    Equipment Needed

    • Instant Pot
    • Glass mixing bowls

    Expert Tips

    • Tip # 1: If you get a bone in pork butt your cook time will need to be longer.
    • Tip # 2: The internal cooking temperature of pork should be 145 degrees F. I would check the temperature of the pork with a meat thermometer before shredding.
    • Tip # 3: If you can’t find honey mustard in your store, you can mix dijon mustard and honey to get the same flavor.

    Recipe FAQ

What kind of instant pot do you use?

I have this one and LOVE it. It has multiple functions therefore you can use it for multiple things! It functions as a crockpot, air fryer, and so much more.

What should I serve honey mustard pulled pork with?

I love serving this as a bowl with sweet potatoes and roasted broccoli.

How can I reheat this dish?

You can reheat this dish at 350 degrees F in the oven for 5-10 minutes or until heated through.

    Can I freeze this dish?

Yes! I would recommend flattening it prior to freezing. When you thaw you may need to add more honey mustard to the pork.
